The woman suspected of driving an SUV that struck and killed a 49-year-old woman Wednesday night has been arrested, Dayton police said Friday.

Traci Taylor of Dayton was standing in the parking lot outside Everyday Food Mart, 1035 Linden Ave. just before 8:20 p.m. when she was struck. Taylor was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

A 911 caller told a dispatcher the SUV “just came through and ran her right down.”

Dayton police Sgt. Gordon Cairns said the investigation is a collaboration between the department’s traffic services and homicide units.

“The suspect and the victim were familiar with each other. The suspect in this particular case has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.

The woman driving the SUV abandoned the vehicle and ran behind the store, leaving dogs behind when she fled, police said.

The suspect was not identified. However, Crystal Lynn Stokes was arrested Thursday by Dayton police and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. She is awaiting arraignment Monday for leaving the scene of an accident, a felony, jail records show.
